it's not pee!
I love how my cat will disappear for a while and then come back strangely wet all over his body. How does this happen? At first, I was afraid that he had somehow managed to roll around in his pee. Thankfully, that's not the case. He just likes to use his water bowl like a bird bath. What a freak.
I've been having some bizarre dreams lately. I don't know what could've brought them on, because I've just been watching Ken Burns documentaries and taking pictures of my clothes. (Btw, that wardrobe project is taking longer than I thought. I've taken around 700 pictures and I'm still not done. Jesus, I have a lot of clothes.)
Boots just sleep farted. Right next to me on the bed. Unpleasant. I know dog farts are supposed to be bad, but his little kitten toots are fucking rank. I think it's the wet food. One time, I was lying down in bed and he walked over my chest, and I happened to see his butthole right when he farted in my face. It winked at me. Then came the awful odor, like he'd taken a tiny little shit right under my nose. It lingered. Disgusting.
Anyway, about the dreams. The other night, I had a dream that the world was going to end, so Ashley, Bobby, and I (along with some dream randos) were going to kill ourselves by jumping off a cliff in advance of the apocalypse. We were lining up to go, and Ashley and Bobby went, and I was next, but I wanted to call my Mom first. So I called, but it went to voicemail, and I thought, "I can't jump without talking to my Mom!" So I didn't jump, and the world didn't end. Then I felt bad that I didn't talk Ashley and Bobby out of it.
This morning, I woke up to a freaky mini-dream during the time between snooze alarms. It felt like it was set in the late-70s/early-80s. I drove up to this old ranch-style house and came up to this big, wooden front door that had a ton of locks and one of those sliding "what's the password?" peep-doors. I finally opened the door and walked in the foyer, which had dark wood panelling, and in front of me, there was another door (also locked) that presumably led to the rest of the house. To the right, there was a staircase leading to a basement, and I could see another door at the bottom (also locked), but this door was shaking in its frame, clearly being pushed against. Then there was this voice-over narration, like the whole scene was in a movie or something: "It took the twins three hours to escape." I immediately realized that I needed to GTFO, because "the twins" were behind that door and I knew they were going to kill me if they got to me. I tried to lock the front door again, but it wasn't working because I was freaking out, so I ran back to my car and tried to start the car, but I was fumbling with the keys and couldn't get the right key in the ignition. I turned around and there were these two girls, around 11 years old, wearing blue dresses, running toward the driver's side of the car. (Evil children really disturb me.) It was then that I had the horrible realization that my car had manual locks and all the doors were unlocked. And then I woke up.
I just discovered Wilfred on FX tonight. Favorite line: "Put your lipstick back in its case, Romeo." Get it? LIKE A DOG PENIS!

drink with me to days gone by
I meant to note that I went to the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear the day after my last post, and it was totally awesome. There were so many people (I heard one count of 265,000), more people than I've ever seen in one place. And so many funny signs. And Jack McCoy! It was great. And we didn't have major problems getting there or back. Fabulous.
In the month and a half since then, I've been busy doing not much. I took my Corporations final this morning, but I don't want to talk about it because it was really unpleasant. I almost threw up when I saw the questions. I've still got Communications left (by Wednesday afternoon) and I would definitely like to be better prepared for that. WHY DIDN'T I DO MORE READING FOR CLASS??
I meant to start studying this afternoon, but I was too drained to do so. Studying sucks a bag of dicks (thanks, Sweet Dee). So instead of studying, I piddled around on the tubes at school for a bit (after lunch/drinks at Chili's and dessert at SB). Then I came home and did more piddling.
And I watched Hairspray. Again. God, I love Corny Collins. And Seaweed. I love the dresses the girls wear so much. I sometimes/often wish people still dressed like that. I don't want the rest of the stuff that goes along with that time period, just the clothes. And possibly the status and prestige afforded to air travel.
That got me thinking about musicals, so I listened and sang along to the Wicked soundtrack. Then I moved all of my clothes off my piano and played every song in the Wicked book except for "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" because I don't like that one. And then I played my favorites out of Les Miserables.
I think playing piano for me is what riding a bike is for most people (regarding the "It's just like riding a bike" saying. I cannot ride a bike for shit, regardless of how long it's been since I rode; it's seriously day-to-day). But I haven't played piano since August? And I went back no problem. I mean, the songs weren't perfect, since I hadn't practiced them in ages, but I wasn't rusty. I guess if I'd rode a bike for 20+ years, it would be different.
Just saw this ridiculous Rod Blagojevich pistachio commercial. Made no sense. Lots of pistachios in a briefcase. My first thought was "THAT'S A LOTTA NUTS!" And my second thought was how very few people get that reference. Sad times.
I really ought to go to bed and get up early to study. But I don't want tooooooo.
Now that I know what tardive dyskinesia is (thanks Mental Health Law!), it makes those Reglan/plaintiffs' lawyers commercials more disturbing. I'd hate to have permanent ticks and spasms.
Another bizarre pistachio commercial! This time with vampires. Lovely.
Can I get up early for breakfast? Cafe Cubano? I HOPE SO, BECAUSE I WANT COFFEE.
Here's to pretty girls who went to our heads
Here's to witty girls who went to our beds
(or, why I should hang out with fictional French revolutionaries more often)

two more hours?
I am literally falling asleep at my desk. I hate the post-lunch sleepies.
I went to the dentist again yesterday and he put in some fillings. He also fixed these little spots on my front teeth that I've had for years. He said it was a hyper-calcification, not a stain. So he handed those down and put in some fillings and now my teeth look so much better.
I finally filed my Japanese tax refund stuff. Hopefully it gets there in time! God I'm lazy.
I think I'm so sleepy because I stayed up formatting an article for VJIL as part of my super important role as Senior Production Editor. I was also watching USA programming. Much love.
Here's hoping the weather holds out this afternoon so I can have more pool time!

soooooosh
Alas, Virginia said no regarding an increase in my scholarship. Oh well. It didn't hurt to ask. And $10,000 a year is still nice.
Today was my third day of class and it was at Iruka. I'm very pleased with the 1st years. There are 6 of them! A much better number to work with than 4, like the 2nd years. The 3rd years were less than genki, but whatever.
After work, we went out for sushi. Unfortunately, after I had my salmon, I decided I wasn't in the mood for sushi. So I had a pumpkin mousse and then went home and ate a bunch of grapes. And some cheese.
Tomorrow is our first day with the new Kinomoto kindergarteners. I hope they're good. The Ido kids (all 9 of them) were good yesterday, not as cute as last years, unfortunately, but cute. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, they want us to go with them on a little field trip. If it does, we'll just have regular class. I'm kind of hoping for rain, just in case they turn out to be awful like the last group.
The new vice principal at Kinomoto is pretty awesome. He's been in Belgium for the last few years, and when he comes back to Kumano, they put him in the worst school in town. Nice. But he came into the office and talked to Catherine and I (in English!) for a bit. He referred to the students at his school as "naughty" (which is totally true, we didn't deny it) in this great European-accented English. He then invited us to visit his school, which I will only do because the kindergarten is in the same building. I'd rather not see the rest of those kids (with the exception of the 2nd graders).
I've been watching a lot of Numb3rs lately, especially the 3rd season, and I noticed that the actress playing Megan was a little fatter than in the other seasons. She was pregnant, of course, and so in watching episodes from earlier in her pregnancy, it was really interesting to see how they were hiding her belly. In the later episodes, she was mostly shot sitting down behind a desk, but in the earlier ones, she'd hold stuff in front of her body or stand behind something. So sneaky!
There's a weird buzzing sound going on, and I don't know where it's coming from. My computer? The kotatsu? The lights? The fridge? Can't tell. But it's irritating, so I'm going to bed.

ise
Today was the April Stitch-n-Bitch, and it was in Ise this month, so I drove up with Lauren, Catherine, and Jamie. We drove about 3 hours to Taki and then met up with Megan and trained it the rest of the way. I think there were 12? 14? people there. We rented out a little restaurant owned by the relatives of this Japanese girl who some of the ALTs are friends with. It was really cute. I had this DELICIOUS beef stew, because I was hungry for more than a drink and cakes. Those were good too, but the beef stew was especially wonderful.
I also knitted a bit. I've been working on this black scarf since the November SnB, and I really only work on it at those events. Despite that, it's pretty long, and looks fairly even and normal. No dropped stitches or anything! Too bad the weather is finally warming up, so I'll have to wait until the end of the year to wear it, provided I finish it, of course.
Next month's SnB will be in Kumano. How exciting! I'm expecting a turnout of maybe 6 people, since nobody ever wants to come all the way down here. I don't really blame them; it's a long way to drive, and it's a long way and a big expense to train. But we go up north, so they should do us a favor once in a while! This is giving me a reason to clean my apartment, in case anyone needs a place to stay, as it is horrifying.
We got home around 7-something. Not too late. When I got home, I downloaded the new episode of 30 Rock, and damn, I have missed that show. I love Tina Fey so much. It was a great episode; I'm so glad they didn't get rusty during the break.
I also downloaded the new chapter of Naruto. Things have been getting very interesting lately after a long string of emo and lameness. And I believe some of my predictions are coming to fruition. Go me. For being a nerd.

*confetti*
Today is my boss's last day. Huzzah! I'm so happy he's leaving. Alas, I will have to see him again, but not every day, so it will be much better. I think this job has been causing me lots of stress which may or may not have been affecting my health, so I hope his departure will make me feel better.
Friday, I went to curry with Lauren. It was delicious, as usual. We also had a nice chat with the guy who runs the place. He's so nice. He's from Nepal, though, so he doesn't speak English much, so we just chatted in Japanese. It was funny. I will really miss that place when I leave.
Then on Saturday, I did three loads of laundry. I wanted to do two more loads, but the clothes weren't drying as fast as I'd hoped. It was a little colder this weekend, I guess. And then it rained all day Sunday, and of course, I'd forgotten to get my clothes down, so they all got damp again. It's sunny today, though, so they should be dry by the end of the day.
Saturday night, I went out for dinner and drinks with Lauren and Jamie at Shinbashi. I love that place, mainly for their chuuhais, but the owner is very friendly, and the food is pretty good for an izakaya. After that, we walked over to Tsutaya and rented Ocean's 13 and watched that at Lauren's. It was much better than 12, but 11 is still the best.
It rained all day yesterday, as I mentioned before, so I didn't do anything. I went to Jusco and got a pizza and some other non-essentials. I got the book I'd ordered from Amazon: World War Z - An oral history of the zombie war. It's by the same guy who wrote The Zombie Survival Guide, which is one of my favorite books. Aside from that, I downloaded several episodes of Numb3rs and watched them. And I played Mario on my DS. So I guess it's not that I didn't do anything, I just didn't do anything important.
Now I will sit and enjoy the final hours of my boss's reign of terror.

mary louise parker is amazing
I've been at home all day, "resting" and taking my medicine at the appropriate times. I've also been buying TV shows off iTunes like crazy. It's just so fast! I can't stop myself.
So far, I am in love with two shows that I hadn't seen before. The first is Weeds, about a widowed housewife (Mary Louise Parker--amazing) who sells pot to suburbanites. I really can't believe I haven't been watching this all along. My only excuse is that it's on Showtime and at home we only have HBO.
The second show I'm really enjoying is Dirt, with Courtney Cox-Arquette. It's about one of my favorite things ever, celebrity gossip, and since it's a cable show, it's extra scandalous.
I also downloaded some Mythbusters and Numb3rs, because those are great shows.
